Kinja'd!!!

I sold a highish mileage Audi S5 about a week and a half ago and it all went swell. I got a call yesterday and my customer said “my car is profusely leaking oil.”

I told him to drop to it off and we’ll take care of it. The mechanic called us and said things are no bueno. My GM told me we cannot authorize anything yet unti the boss comes back tomorrow.

ABANDON SHIP! ABANDONSHIP!!!

I know, but it plants a seed in the customer’s mind, and somehow somewhere someone is gonna pay for that repair and lose out on their paycheck.

Are you sure it’s leaking oil? German cars are finely honed precision machines and would never think of leaking oil. And who ever heard of a Volkswagen product having a mechanical issue? That’s just crazy talk.

Not sure how it works in your state but here in Wisconsin dealers are required to fix issues that occur of an as-is used car sale if those issues were not properly disclosed in the sale. I’ve been on the customer side of this equation.

ooohhh, “we’ll take care of it” is not something you should say at a dealership. You’ll be married to that care in no time

A german car with an oil leak? That can’t be....

I used to have an old grand cherokee with a leaky rear main seal. My wife used to complain about the oil spots on the driveway. she would say “why don’t you fix that oil leak?” to which I would say “it doesn’t leak. It’s marking its territory.”

It wasn’t leaking oil when we took it in, nor when it sat for two weeks here. God knows how it started draining oil, but it falls under my dealers “30 day warranty”

Who told you to say that? I’ve always been told to say “let me see what I can do”. It doesn’t have the warm and fuzzy ring to it, but it doesn’t automatically obligate the dealership to fix a problem either.

I bought a used B5 Passat back in the day that kept dripping oil everywhere. Brought it in under the 30 day warranty. By day 29, its 4th trip to the dealer and they replaced every seal that 2.8 V6 had to get it to stop.

He originally came in for the 428, then he wanted a 528...then a day later he drove home in the S5. Explain that

Safe to say their mechanic/advisor who checked all cars before they brought them in was already on his last straw. He originally said it was just a loose oil filter.
